RAUHAUS EARNS INDUSTRY HONORS
PRESS RELEASE, SUMMER 2008
A poster and logo designed by Kevin Rau, proprietor of rauhaus, have received two prestigious industry honors.
Rau’s poster celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Helvetica typeface received a Gold Award from Graphis, The International Journal of Visual Communication. He also designed a logo selected to appear in a new book called “Really Good Logos Explained,” by Rockport Publishers. The logo featured was designed for Oliver’s, a specialty foods boutique located in Laguna Beach, Calif. Oliver’s is owned by Bob and Julie Brawner, formerly of Neenah, Wisconsin.
The Graphis honor places rauhaus among the ranks of such well-known design firms as Pentagram, Milton Glaser Inc., Pirtle Design, Ogilvy & Mather and many others. The poster, which was originally designed for a Linotype poster contest, is featured in Graphis Poster Annual 2008-09. Graphis was first published in 1944 and is seen as one of the design industry’s most respected publications.
Rockport Publishers creates illustrated source books for professional designers, showcasing and dissecting work emanating from the world’s most talented design studios. In "Really Good Logos Explained," some of today's top creative minds critique and appraise examples of truly exceptional logos — such as the one designed by Rau — and explain what makes them work.
rauhaus was formed in 1989 and has served a variety of clients, including Sony Electronics, Wisconsin Bankers Association, Make A Wish Foundation and Seton Hall University. Rau, who has a master’s degree of fine art in graphic design from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a bachelor’s degree in art with an emphasis in graphic design, is also a lecturer at UW-Oshkosh where he has taught a variety of design courses in the Art and Journalism departments.
